Lucio Dalla was a big supporter of the candidacy of Matera for the European Capital of Culture 2019 with those unforgettable words: “Matera is considered the city of man, and I think that here there is something magical, unique and unrepeatable, which needs to be highlighted. Matera reminds me of Petra, in Jordan, or somewhere in Sicily, and for the challenge of Matera in 2019 I would like to be more than just an ambassador, along with men such as Nicola D'Imperio, Nicola Filazzola, Rocco Scotellaro, Carlo Levi and Michele D'Adamo, who exalted the Lucan landscape, the true heritage of this land.” In this spirit, in a few days, the inner bond between Lucio Dalla and Matera, the European Capital of Culture 2019, will be renewed. The singer-songwriter from Bologna will be the protagonist of the event of “The Tribute of Matera, the European Capital of Culture 2019, to Lucio Dalla” on Friday 20th November 2015 at 5pm at the Provincial Media Library “A. Ribecco” in Piazza Vittorio Veneto. The event is organised by the Provincial Media Library “A. Ribecco” under the patronage of the Municipal Administration of Matera. It will commence with the presentation of the biographical novel by Raffaele Lauro, “Caruso The Song - Lucio Dalla and Sorrento”. It will be opened by the welcoming speeches of Raffaello De Ruggieri, Mayor of Matera, and Francesca Cangelli, City Councilor of Matera. The evening will be introduced and hosted by Oreste Loporno, executive member of the National Order of Journalists. Among the speakers: Nicola D'Imperio, friend of Lucio Dalla; Antonio Manzo, managing editor and special correspondent of “Il Mattino”, and Giovanni Bertuzzi, teacher and spiritual father of Lucio Dalla. The closing speech will be held by Guido Viceconte, Senator of the Republic. The event will be followed by the screening of the documentary film by Raffaele Lauro, “Lucio Dalla e Sorrento - Places of the Soul” (54’, with English subtitles). “Lucio Dalla - said Raffaele Lauro - had the whole South in his heart: from Sorrento to San Martino Valle Caudina; from the Tremiti Islands to Milo, to the slopes of Etna; from the Marina of Castellammare di Stabia to the Li Galli islands in front of Positano, up to Matera. His love for Matera: deep, rooted, popular, feeding on local culture, on archaeology, on human relationships, traditions, festivities and religious devotion. He also decided to dedicate a song to Matera, defined as the miracle of the past and at the same time of the contemporary, just like he had done in 1986 with Sorrento, with his masterpiece, ‘Caruso’. Also for this coincidence, the event of Matera assumes for me a spiritual value.”
