On Friday 30 November, to coincide with the birthday of Nello Lauro, ten years after his death, a special tribute will be held in Lugano (Canton Ticino), on the theme “Nello Lauro and Lugano: 1963-2008”, with a photography exhibition on the hotel owner’s career – a master in the arts of hospitality. The exhibition will feature a curation of artistic works inspired by the great art collector Baron Hans Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza, along with a conference on Lauro as a leading managerial figure, including direct testimonies from world-renowned personalities, press articles and the biography, in English, written by his brother, Raffaele Lauro, and published with a preface by Francesco Cossiga, “Cossiga Suite, In Praise of Brotherly Love”, GoldenGate Edizioni. The book takes its title from the suite, dedicated by Nello Lauro, Director of the Grand Hôtel Splendide Royal in Lugano, to his friend Francesco Cossiga. It retraces Nello’s extraordinary life, from Sorrento to Lugano, touching on his passion for painting and his international friendships: including George Bush, Francesco Cossiga, François Mitterrand, Renata Tebaldi, Luciano Pavarotti and Baron Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza, to name but a few. The book focuses on Nello Lauro’s love for his family, art, opera and democracy, inherited from his mother Angela. Above all, it is an emotional and captivating tribute built around the idea of brotherly love.
